If You Can Read This, Make Me a Sandwich
There are few things in this world that I love more than a good sandwich. There's just something about the innate possibilities that two slices of bread and some fixings hold that makes me giddy. And while I can make a hell of a sandwich at home, sometimes you have to go out to get something REALLY special. Here's where I like to go.
Funnily enough, Blue Table happens to be RIGHT next door to Dash, the Kardashian sisters’ clothing store. But that’s neither here nor there, the sandwiches here are RIDICULOUSLY good— I had the Ellen Special the other day and I was a VERY happy camper.

This place is HEAVEN for sandwich lovers— you know they’re serious when they separate the menu into chicken, steak, pork, fish, vegetarian, and vegan sections. I’m currently drooling over the Drunk’n Goat in Paris (Herbes de Provence marinated Skyhill Farm’s goat cheese, cranberry chutney, French brie, balsamic roasted onions, green apple and organic farmer’s greens). Also, make sure to check their site for their daily and deliciously seasonal specials.

Say hello, to the “Not Your Mom’s ‘Ham and Cheese’.”
Whenever I’m in Eagle Rock (which sadly isn’t as often a I would like,) I usually end up making my way to Auntie Em’s. This place has garnered fame for its cupcakes (which are very tasty— I recommend the carrot), but the food here is excellent. The last time I was here I got the special of the day (a chicken sandwich,) and it was SUPER good.

My older brother introduced me to Il Tramezzino WAY back when, and it’s always a good choice for lunch. The grilled chicken breast is probably their most famous (and perhaps their most delicious sandwich,) but I think pretty much everything here is worth trying.

Joan's on Third
8346 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90048
I used to live around the corner from Joan’s, and while I probably went here more when I didn’t live around the corner (go figure,) I’m usually always in the mood for their Garden Vegetable sandwich (hummus, herbed cream cheese, sprouts, shredded carrots, tomato, cucumber & avocado on whole grain bread). I know one day I’ll get sick of it and go for the roast beef or the turkey, but that has yet to happen.

The Muffalatto Sandwich— this looks deliciously messy.
I’m a bit of a Francophile, so I totally adore this cute little cafe— I was won over by the decor and the fennel-infused water even before they brought the food (what can I say, I’m easily impressed). The last time I was here I came with my sister and we ordered a couple sandwiches to share— I think the smoked salmon with tzatsziki was my fave. But since my sister didn’t want to try the merguez (spicy North African sausage), sandwich I might have to come back for another round. P.S. Don’t forget to get some macaroons for dessert.

Le Pain is known for their tartines (open-faced sandwiches) and I think all of them sound totally delicious— so you can imagine how long it takes me to order at this place. I think I would probably need to get two, one savory (Rustic Tuna Salad
with tomatoes, black olive tapenade & roasted red peppers) and one sweet (ricotta with mission figs, black pepper & organic acacia honey).

You can’t really write about Los Angeles sandwiches and not mention Philippe’s— a heaven on earth for french dip lovers.

Bay Cities is THE place to get an Italian sandwich in LA (unfortunately most of LA also knows this, so the place is usually packed). But the tasty sandwiches (caprese, turkey, roast beef…) and fresh breads are worth the wait. Most people will probably tell you to go for the Godmother (the thing has like FIVE different kinds of meats,) but the last time I was here I made my own sandwich (I think I did a turkey-roast beef combo) and it was pretty darn tasty.

The Godmother in all its meaty glory.
I’m embarrassed to say it, but I didn’t go to Porto’s until about six months ago. I know, I’m a terrible Angeleno. But I’m very happy that I did! Porto’s is delicious and RIDICULOUSLY cheap, which makes it a winner in my book. I got the Cubano (slow roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles, on Cuban bread) and the house salad and it was delish! Oh, and don’t forget to get a guava-cheese pastry for dessert.

Behold the Cubano! And yes, those are plantain chips on top.
If you live in the Valley, Bay Cities is a hell of a trek, so thankfully you don’t have to go all the way to Santa Monica for a delicious Italian sandwich. Cavaretta’s is the real thing, and while Sherman Way isn’t exactly the beach, the sandwiches here are so good you won’t care.

Words cannot describe how I adore this place. And words cannot describe how good their sandwiches are. The duck confit sandwich is LEGENDARY (the lamb is also a fine, fine choice), but you really can’t go wrong with anything you order here. Also, you can follow ACG on Twitter or check their blog for weekly sandwich and salad specials.

Artisan Cheese Gallery
A “taste” of what you might encounter at the Artisan Cheese Gallery. And don’t leave those pickles hanging— they’ve got a reputation (a good one, that is).
The last time I was here with my family we shared some sandwiches— I think we had tuna and a fig-cheese combo on walnut bread. But since then they have TOTALLY changed the menu. They still serve sandwiches (although they no longer offer as many as they once did,) but now they now also have beer-battered brie sliders. OMFG.

I don’t know what they put in the sandwiches here, but whatever it is it makes people fall in love with them. And I don’t use the word love lightly, either. Everything here is amazing: the tuna, the salami, the prosciutto, the turkey, the veggie. Which only can mean one thing, they all must have crack in them, because having so many good sandwiches under one roof just seems impossible.
