Why Potty Train Your Cat?

Ok, let me give you a few reasons here:

1. No more scooping their nasty poop.
2. Your friends will love you again. 
3. You will save tons of money! 
4. Your partner will thank you. Maybe they’ll be less fighting? 

Things to know before you teach your cat how to poop in the toilet

1. Consult your cat. Ask your cat this question, “Do you want to learn how to poop in the toilet?” 
2. Listen to your cat. If he/she says, “Meow.” This means “Sure.” If your cat says “Meeow.” This means “No, absolutely not!” 
3. Regardless of his/her answer, you will teach them anyway. 
4. Follow the step by step guidelines I have provided below.
5. Be prepared for a stinky mess and some resentment from your cat. 

Step 1: Introduce Your Cat To The Toilet

Your cat may like to drink from the toilet. If this is the case, remind him/her that this is where they will be pooping and it’s probably not such a good idea. 
Also remind them that this is where you poop also, and that is why you shoo them away each time they take a swig. 

Step 2: Place The Litter Box Near The Toilet

Once your cat has been introduced to the toilet and they know where their future lies, place the litter box in the bathroom.      

• Once he/she knows where it is, elevate the box equal distance to the toilet.   
• Keep it here for a few days.    
• Watch him/her intently. You don’t want them pooping where their old box used to be!  
• You both can now poop together at the same time! How exciting! 
• Once you see some progress, move on to Step 3. 

Step 3: Introduce The Salad Bowl

• Just take any normal salad bowl (it can have pictures on it) and place it inside the toilet. Make sure the bowl is the right size. This is important so kitty doesn’t fall into the toilet.
• Place biodegradable litter into the bowl.
• Hold your cat’s paw and walk him/her around the toilet. 
• Tell them this is IT! Now is the time… this is the toilet! 
• Keep the bowl here for about a week. It may be messy! 
• Once this is successful, have a salad! 

Step 4: Kitty May Fall In!

You are almost there! Your cat may or may not feel comfortable on the toilet at this point, but soon it’s time to dump the litter for good!

• Once your cat likes to poop into the salad bowl, get rid of it! NOW!
• Then cut a hole in a piece of cardboard and place it around the toilet.
• Let your cat try to poop into this hole.  
• Be careful though, during this process your cat may fall into the toilet! Your cat must learn to balance there.
• Don’t forget the cat poops there and close the toilet lid. 
• Be sure to give your cat lots of kisses after it falls in. He/she will appreciate it. 

Step 5: Poop Success!

Hopefully, your cat is now pooping into the toilet! If so, congratulations! If not, you suck.
This is your goal: to have your cat pooping by 2 or 3 weeks of potty training.
