Good, cheap restaurants in Downtown NYC

Vanessa's Dumpling House

118A ELDRIDGE ST MANHATTAN, NY 10002

Hole in the wall establishment unbelievably cheap (and good) meals. Get 8 dumplings for under $5.

Very limited seating, be prepared to take out or wait for a seat. A fattening meal for two for less than $15.

Best dumplings I have ever had.

Wo Hop Restaurant

15 Mott St, New York, NY 10013

Great authentic Chinese restaurant within a 10 minute walk from City Hall. Wait staff is often grumpy but do not detract from their amazing food. Most dishes are under $10. Huge portions allow for a large-sized doggy bag (or a very full feeling).

I suggest the best Hot and Sour Soup I have ever had for under $2.

Bennie's Thai Cafe

88 Fulton St, New York, NY 10038

Great authentic Thai restaurant on Fulton st. Looks like a real shabby dive from the outside (and inside) but the food is amazing. Fast, friendly service. Meals around $10-$15. Very Cheap weekday lunch special.

There are a couple of setbacks however. The restaurant closes at a very early 9pm (compare to any other restaurant in NYC). They ONLY accept cash or American Express (found this out last minute on a date… which led to a very awkward five minutes when I ran to the closest ATM).

Try the Noodle Soups and the Satay.

Pho Viet Huong

73 MULBERRY ST NEW YORK, NY 10013

Traditional Vietnamese cooking for cheap prices. Located on the Southeast edge of Chinatown. Service is very energetic and fast. Meal for two under $25. Menu is very comprehensive and includes many rare delicacies (ie lots of stuff that many people wouldn’t normally consider food)… Size of menu is intimidating with a 200+ entry list of foods.

I suggest the Vietnamese spring roll and the ginger and scallion chicken.

Rosella's Pizzeria

164 William St Frnt, New York, NY 10038

Greasy but good pizza. Great atmosphere (if you like college students, Pace University is just one block away). Staff is friendly. 2 Large slices and a soda for under $10. Also has a great selection of pasta and subs along with small salad bar.

Gold St Diner

2 GOLD ST New York City, NY 10038

Wonderful 24/7 diner and bar in Financial District. Serving everything from Pancakes to Sushi. Late night staff is generally more enjoyable and faster than dinner hours. Dinner shift staff seems lacking, but the dinner menu makes up for it. A great place to go at any time. Phenomenal pancakes for $7 anytime.
