Eek The Cat: Even though it had a lot of similarities with Garfield, Eek The Cat thrilled audiences with his motto of “it never hurts to help”, then experiences an elaborate plot where he gets hurt.

With it’s infatuation with Elvis and celebrity cameos, the 1992 cartoon Eek The Cat certainly had a soft and kind of squishy spot with the adults.

Dexter’s Lab: A great, classical, underrated cartoon from 1996.

Maybe not the finest piece of animation artistry, but it sure struck a chord with the nerdy crowd and the annoying-older-sister crowd.

Johnny Bravo: A 1997 cartoon that, again, was popular with the socially inept geeky dempgraphic.

Overly vain Johnny had the looks, but still couldn’t get the girls.

Provided hope and undeniably valuable lessons in how dudes with brains are successful in life.

Animaniacs: A bit of a crazy, fast-paced 1993 cartoon that hit it pretty big for a while, then, unexpectedly crashed.

The Warner brothers, Wakko and Yakko, and Warner sister Dot were very kooky.

There were many educational episodes covering subjects like history, math, geography, science, and social studies that only adults could keep up with.

Ren & Stimpy: One of the originators of pushing cartoon boundaries.

This 1991 Nickelodeon cartoon was gross, inappropriate, and awesome, all at the same time!

A true pioneer in animation, armpit humor, and body excretion history.

The Tick: Probably, the most underrated and undiscovered cartoon ever.

Lasting an unfortunate three seasons, this brilliant 1994 Saturday morning cartoon left the kids with mouthes agape and the adults howling.

The Tick and sidekick Arthur battled mediocre villains and more difficultly, the perils of normalcy.

Thundercats! Bringing up the rear as the oldest confused cartoon, this 1985 cartoon amazed kids and adults alike despite it’s similarities to He-Man.

Unfortunately, the results may have been a little skewed because most adults that watched Thundercats were creepy guys looking for an episode with Cheetara.

The Simpsons: Coming up on it’s 20th year running, The Simpsons are still going strong.

The Simpsons found it’s niche in the fine line between kid humor and adult humor and has been riding that line since it’s beginning in 1989.

There was a lot of protesting in the beginning of their career, but other cartoons have pushed past The Simpsons in controversial animation.

Spongebob Squarepants: Probably the sleeper of the list, Spongebob Squarepants has been dive-bombing kids with adult humor under the censor’s radar since 1999.

Only when the first Spongebob movie came out in 2004, did the fanatical protesters finally take notice.

Samurai Jack: Undeniably, the coolest cartoon ever!

The beauty and artistry of the backgrounds, the scenery, and the characters of this 2001 cartoon are, unfortunately, lost on most of the kids and even some adults.

You would think a cartoon with such little speaking would not rate high with adults, but the messages of symbolism and honor make adults shout for more.
