How to geekify your home, one room at a time.
I like my home to be a reflection of who I am. I am a geek, therefore my apartment should be full of geeky decor don't you think? So I sifted through some of the nerdy sites I follow and found some really nifty ways to make your home feel a bit more geeky. Feel free to add anything you might already have or want!
For Those Other Areas
You know, the other areas: the bedroom, living room, random hallway, etc.
Ninja Star Coat Hooks
Coat hooks. I can take ’em or leave ’em. But these? These are ninja star coat hooks! Maybe anything placed on them would immediately be transformed into an invisibility cloak or something equally as awesome! Or maybe I could tell guests that I was attacked last night, but fought off the intruders with my sweet ninja-like skills. Or I can just hang up my coats or some boring sh*t like that.
Maybe you’re not into ninjas (who are you?) Maybe you’d rather have your cape or cloak on a joystick. Fine. I won’t judge you.
Tetris-Inspired Ceramic Pots
I don’t have a garden and my thumbs are definitely not green, but these cool Tetris pots really make me want to have more greenery around the apartment.
iPhone Icon Paperclips
I love Etsy, don’t you? Bearduck has created these super cute iPhone icon paperclips. I think I would use them as bookmarks.
iCard
Another awesome Etsy find: The iBook iCard. Forget Hallmark! A set of three is $12, but think of the reaction you’ll get! Or maybe you’d rather send a letter on Play More notebook paper. On one side it looks like normal looseleaf, on the other it looks like a sport ball (basketball, soccer, etc.)
2GB flash drive the poses as a Shift key. Nice. I love that it’s only $16!
Turn an ordinary desk toy into a cable holder
These Mighty Muggs are only $15 and made from recycled materials. Instead of sitting around collecting dust, put these guys to work!
Lego Fail Whale?
Yes please. Check out the making of this fail whale, and then take a look at all the other neat ideas people have for our friend/foe Mr. Fail Whale.
Waterproof Speakers
If you’re at all like me, then your shower turns into an American Idol stage, too. I have a shower radio, but without fail I always catch the commercials. So having my iPod with me in there would be a treat. Plus, these little drops are kind of cute.
Video Game Soap
I’m not sure I would use this soap. I’d channel my inner Monica Gellar and set this aside for only the geekiest of the geeks: Steve Jobs. Check out Digitalsoaps on Etsy. They have everything from strawberry-rhubarb scented Playstation soap to coconut-lime NES soap.
Bath Bombs
Excuse me while the 10-year-old me squeals over this. Super Mario Bath Bombs are like bath-time treats. You drop the ball in and enjoy the fizzle and before you know it you’re left with an action figure.
Waterproof LCD Monitor
It’s impossible to shower sometimes, especially during the fall when all of the good TV shows are back on. So if you can’t tear yourself away from Dating in the Dark, why not drop $240 and enjoy your showers anywhere you’d like? Like in the shower…
LED Shower Light
I know I’ve written about the LED shower light before, but that’s how much it freaks me out. Can you imagine standing under a stream red or blue of light while showering? At first it might be fun, but the novelty would wear off quickly. But just in case you’re a big fan of the shower light, there’s also the LED faucet light. Nothing like washing my hands under a stream of red blood, er water.
Pac-Man Oven Mitts
Normally I’m a plain cloth mitt kind of gal, but these are too awesome to pass up. The mitt is made of silicon so your hand will be protected from the heat. Best part? The inside of his mouth looks like a Pac-Man level. Neat-o!
Binary Number Computer Clock
I think the title says it all. I really like math references and jokes, especially if they are suggestive.
Super Mario Bros. Fire Flowers
Another Etsy win. A geek wouldn’t bother with real flowers. Their life span is nothing when compared to fire flowers
