With the current economic crisis, Americans everywhere are now learning how to tighten their budgets. One way to save money is to shop at local Goodwill stores. You can find some great clothes for only $5! But before you start rummaging through the hand-me-downs, here are a few tips to keep in mind

#1: Look over all merchandise before purchasing.

The main reason why people give their clothes to Goodwill is because they no longer fit.  Over time clothes shrink, tear, fade, or stretch.  When you find a piece of clothing that you like, first look for tiny holes and sweat stains.  You don’t want to look like you have a sweating problem, or that you’re butt’s about to fall out of your pants.

#3: Purchasing your items

Goodwill stores do take credit cards.  But it usually makes you look cheap if you’re charging a $5 polo shirt.

Goodwill also sells items like these for a good price.

I got this sweater for only $4.50. Thanks, Goodwill!

#2: Try on all merchandise before purchasing.

You may find a great shirt that is in your size, and doesn’t have any holes or stains anywhere, but the moment you put it on it becomes a mid-drift bearing shirt.  All Goodwill stores have at least two dressing rooms. Take no more than three items with you.  Try them on, make sure you have plenty or room, and that nothing is stretched out.  Also, if the material makes you itch really bad, don’t buy it.

Final Thoughts

By shopping at Goodwill, not only are you saving money, but you are helping a great cause.  And if you have some things around your house you would like to get rid off, you can always donate them to Goodwill.  Who knows, maybe your old junk might go to some one in need.

I was always partial to Salvation Army, growing up, because they organized clothing by article AND color! Do Goodwills ever do that?

I heart goodwill… you inspired me to go tomorrow! Not open on Sundays, so tomorrow is my lucky day, I can feel it!
