Heaven on the Water New to WiHi. Want to explore. Read about this the club on-line, it's olympians &the tradegy of the fire that took the last boathouse and its historic memoribilia. Went out on my bike looking & found it yesterday at the end of Dyckman St. & what used to be a boat marina. Gate in fence was open & rode down to boat house. It was almost 7:00pm & the boathouse was locked up. Good thing by the site of those on the trail and watersedge. This is NOT a place to go alone, especially in the evening/night. Rode faster in opposite direction. Returned Sunday for free kayaking offered by Club. 10am-12pm. The trail was no longer desolate but filled with people walking with kids and going to the Club. The trail is on the City Parks list to add to the Greenway Trail - connect it to the rest of the Hudson Bike paths. So there's hope and the Marina will also be renovated in the next couple of years (did I mention the Marina is gone?). Long story short, over 40 people showed up at the Inwood Canoe Club boat house today to paddle out in the Hudson River with the generousity of the Canoe Club members that act as guides. So all the negativity of the location was gone when I saw this fantastic, vibrant boat house with over 30+ kayaks, canoes and people all for the love of the sport. As a beginner it was great to see all the other beginners getting their feet wet. One guy even fell out of his kayak trying to get in. (if your reading this buddy, sorry but it's part of the story). It was time for people to come together and enjoy a beautiful day. Oh and the kayaking part? I'm still a beginner, but it was great out on the water with views of the GWBridge and NJ Pallisades. If you wish to learn more look up their (brief) website www.inwoodcanoeclub.org or better yet take few minutes to look up their history thru articles from the New York Times, etc.. You will appreciate their tenacity and endurance. Finally, go on Sunday's 10a-12p to support them and try out a kayak (free!)

Park View Restaurant

219 Dyckman Street, New York, NY 10034

Great little ‘diner’ but better than your average diner. Try the blueberry pancakes. Perfect for a stop after exploring the area, Inwood Park, Cloisters, Kayaking on Hudson. Been about 4 times; always consistant. You should not be dissapointed.

107 West Restaurant

Maybe the nicest restaurant in Hudson Heights. Food pretty good. Prices ok. (try the restaurant next door, actually called “Next Door” for food just as good – for less)

Nice! I have wanted to check this place out since reading about the background story (fire) and seeing pictures of the new boathouse. Being in Brooklyn though, I don’t make it up to Inwood all that often, but maybe before the summer’s end!
