The Best iPhone Apps For Women
Technology is becoming more female friendly, but that doesn't mean all women want pink and fuzzy or games with cute animals. That's not to say that all we need are better ways to keep track of our grocery lists and periods, but these are some of the apps developed with women in mind. I expect this guide to grow; feel free to add your favorites in the comments.
Grocery Gadget - $2.99
Say goodbye to paper shopping lists forever! The Grocery Gadget app helps you save time and money by preparing and managing reusable lists. You can arrange list items in the same order you keep them at home, so you can quickly zip through your pantry, refrigerator, bathroom, laundry room, etc. and easily mark items for purchase.
Measurements include clothing, currency, data storage, energy, force, kitchen, length, power, pressure, speed and temperature.
Nike Training Club - Free
Developed by Nike exclusively for women. You can set up a personalized workout program online & access it from your phone. It includes videos to help with new techniques. The best part? You can coordinate workouts with your friends & track each other’s progress.
Pedometer - $1.99
Aside from tracking your steps, it also allows you to set a target and keep a diary to achieve your goal.
Lose It
Use Lose It to:
- Enter & track fat, carbs, fiber, protein, etc.
- Track weight loss progress over time
- Learn about new exercises for the elliptical, stairmaster, yoga and pilates
- Plan recipes and eating routines
Another tool for women to track their periods. It even predicts the future so you know when NOT to plan that bikini-clad vacation.
The iCycle app is an app that allows men to track his girlfriend’s period. The kicker? It allows for multiple cycles just in case he has more than one girlfriend. For $1.99 your guy can break your cycle into segments: warning, caution, good and best.
Don’t have an iPhone but still need a period tracker? Use the website Mon.thly for free.
iStylist - $1.99
I know I could use this! I couldn’t dress myself if my life depended on it. If you’re like me, iStylist will help you find skirts, dresses, jeans, etc. that will flatter your figure.
Chanel - Free
With the Chanel app, any chic geek can get news, photos, videos and product info, as well as watch fashion shows, see the latest Chanel lineup and follow the latest Chanel news. It has a store locator that lets you know if that store has whatever item you just saw in stock.
These ladies have a couple great ideas for iPhone app developers. An app that locates hot guys using your phone’s GPS? Yes, please!
Ovulation Calendar - $4.99
The Ovulation Calendar app
These baby making apps are expensive!
iPregnancy - $2.99
iPregnancy is a really cool app that lets expectant mothers keep track of their pregnancy along with their doctor. Once a due date is entered, mothers can track:
- Current gestational age
- Current trimester
- Time remaining until due date
- Time remaining until your next milestone
It includes features such as, 3-D ultrasound photo of the baby at each week, information about the baby at the current gestational age as well as the average length and weight of the baby. It even has a baby name picker!
Breastfeeding - $.99
The breastfeeding app was created to help nursing mothers remember which breast their baby last drank from. I’m not sure why this matters, as I’m not yet a mother, but it seems to be a pretty popular app with the mommy geeks.
A blogger, Crista, put together a fantastic list of the iPhone apps she uses and loves. They’re even broken down by category.
This app is a bit pricey, but it’s loaded with detailed videos and step-by-step illustrations, including restraint, muzzling, CPR, bandaging, and many more. It has articles on bleeding, poisoning, drowning, CPR, etc.
Oblique Strategies - Free
Oblique Strategies offers advice to help you solve a dilemma or push through a creative block, a.k.a. creative constipation, as I like to call it.
Who Called - Free
I hate it when I get multiple calls from a number I don’t recognize. Who Called helps you find the caller by searching for the number. It’s reverse number lookup, also used by Whitepages online. You can identify telemarketers and other spammers and make sure you never accidentally answer again.
Dashbuster - TBA
Dashbuster was recommended to me as a great way to keep track of your Blockbuster or Netflix queue. While it claims to be available in the app store, I’m currently unable to find it.
iScopes - Free
There’s a lot of choices here, including daily quickies (the Twitter of horoscopes), daily single’s love, daily couple’s love, daily teen, daily beauty scope, daily finance, daily momscope and even horoscopes for pets.
The downside, because it’s free, there are ads. They’re not too intrusive, but they’re a slight distraction.
The Pill - birth control pill reminder
The Pill is a birth control pill reminder for iPhone. It sends push notifications at the time you choose, so you will remember to take your pill. You can request additional notifications, customize backgrounds and sounds, receive alerts on your email, see the graphical pack and compare with yours etc… 100% for women, and much better than a simple alarm on your phone.

Toddler Cards - Essentials
If you have toddler-aged children, you have to check out this app. I came across a great app that my toddler loves to play with…. keeps her preoccupied when I’m busy working around the house. I was looking for something fun but educational. Check out Toddler Cards…. http://www.toddlercards.ws, covers ABC’s, 123’s, colors & shapes. I turn it on “Mix It Up!” mode and she taps away at all the cards saying her alphabet, numbers, etc… Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Baby's First App
Have a terrific time with your children learning letters, numbers, animals, shapes, colors and objects. Baby’s First App is beautifully designed with artwork and sounds that will stimulate and educate your
infant or toddler. With a simple touch of the screen, your child will hear and see all the slides as they appear one at a time. You can select a specific category or choose to play all the slides in or out of
order.
Baby’s First App can be a safe distraction when in restaurants, waiting rooms, in a car, on an airplane, or even when you just want to have some learning time together with your little one. Simply use your iPhone’s volume or mute controls for sound options. You can reach the main menu again after the selected set is complete.
Future updates, with more categories, images, and languages are certain to follow, and will be free to all customers who have previously purchased the application.

The best Ikea app ever
I wanted to picture Ikea furniture in my house before I bought anything.
Mainly for one reason: returning things is a pain in the butt.
So me and 2 friends hacked together an iPhone app that does just that.
It’s called Ikea Now. And its free.
