Guidespotter’s Warning: the sounds emitted from this here video may cause your dog to howl. (And if you don’t have a dog, your neighbor’s dog might howl. And if you don’t have a neighbor, you might just howl.) It may also cause your finest wine glasses to smash simultaneously. In short: magnificent.

For the person who already has “everything”, the gift of a singing saw…
Perhaps a first-aid kit as well? You know, just until he or she gets really good.
This woman is living the dream this Guidespotter was simply too yellow belly to follow herself. Now like a film student-turned-fat-and-fickle-film-critic, I only write about that dream…and drown my sorrows in a box of Junior Mints.
The Current Guinness World Record
The current world record of largest assembly of musical sawists (27) was set in Poland.
Although 30 sawists performed altogether at the 6th Annual Musical Saw Festival, this year the sawists have officially applied to break that record.
According to Natalia Paruz, “The Saw Lady”, and founder of the Annual Musical Saw Festival, the Mussehl & Westphal Goldplated Saw is the “Cadillac” of musical saws.

A Brief History of the Musical Saw
According to legend, the tradition of playing the musical or “singing” saw began somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains, sometime in the early 19th century. The instrument was a popular form of entertainment in the 1920’s and 30’s on the stages of Vaudeville.

…commuters will process what they passed the following morning, while in the shower…
The folks at OddMusic.com have gone about the unusual task of compiling a list of the world’s lesser-known instruments, such as the “bowafridgeaphone”; oh, of course, the bowafridgeaphone…it was between that and the trumpet for junior high band and I thought, “well, which of these is going to be easier to carry?” And because I was l lazy, the trumpet won.
This Guidespotter
This Guidespotter played the trombone back in the day. Is the trombone an unusual instrument? Well, no. But it is less common to see a girl playing the trombone. And crumbling under the pressure of those who would chide her for the ring left around her upper lip by the mouthpiece, this Guidespotter lost her chance at a career in the brass section.
What instrument did you play?
See you at the Festival?
Saws away!
