I recently moved back to The Windy City from The Big Apple and I gotta say, there are unique differences between these two fabulous cities. The accents are both annoying, the food is a matter of opinion, and I don't like the cold. One is not better than the other in my opinion, but if I could combine the two I would be in the perfect city. Read on and you decide. Which do you prefer?

New York Thin Crust Pizza

Widget_doif_dm_neg6ku8-hyayjm

Oh this delicious goodness melts in your mouth. It’s so thin, you HAVE to fold it in half and take massive bites. Don’t choke on it though. I lived in Harlem right next door to a Patsy’s and went there everyday for a slice. I would get so excited that I would cram it down my throat. Not a good idea. Especially if you want to live a little longer.

People love the thin crust because you can eat more slices and not feel guilty! I always like to sprinkle a little Parmesan on top for more cheese. Mmmmm. Oh, and pigeons love it too.

Patsy's Pizzeria

318 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011

In my opinion, the best Pizza in New York. Slices are only $1.75 and baked in a charcoal oven, so it’s nice and crunchy.

The New York Accent

“Give me a large cwaffee.”
Every native New Yorker always orders it just this way. I made the mistake, when I was working at Starbucks in Times Square, of repeating their order in a mocking accent, trying not to laugh. It took me a while, but before long, I too said “cwaffee” acquiring this speech impediment that I can’t get rid of.

New Yorkers know what they want and coffee is one of them. That’s one of the reasons why New York is so dear to my heart, they love their caffeine.
The accent is deep-throaty, rough, and straight to the point.

New York Landmarks

Of course we all know Lady Liberty. This woman is a symbol of freedom and power for this country. When I first moved to New York City I could have sworn she was looking right at me. She wasn’t of course because she is not alive, but for many Americans she is the spirit of this country.
Plus, New York, you have the Brooklyn Bridge. Beautiful!

Alright, New York you might win this one.

New York Has 3 Bodies of Water

Manhattan, you have The Hudson River, The East River, and The Harlem River. Ok, so what. Show off! Who cares, You can’t swim in them anyway.

You can hang out in Battery Park City and enjoy the beautiful Hudson. So much to do over there: bike riding, eat at the fun restaurants, or sit and laugh at people… my favorite!

New York Performs

You have Broadway, off Broadway, and more Broadway that I’m sure I haven’t seen. Sheesh, and I love it! You have an entire street named after it and many other cities copied you. This is why I fell in love with you and moved there to begin with. A year later you broke my heart with your dramatic love songs.

Chicago Deep Dish

Pizza lovers BEWARE! You will be so full after one piece and only one piece. I’ve eaten a whole pizza and gained 10 pounds! Ok, it was over the course of a few days, but it’s even better the next day. The more you eat, the more satisfied you feel. I recommend this after a nice breakup.

Go ahead though and indulge, it’s the Midwest! Eat until ya burst. Eat all that cheesy goodness you want! (I’m gunna go get some right now!)

Sorry New York, but Chicago wins this one… hands down!

Giordano's Pizzeria

20 E Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60604

There is sometimes a wait on weeknights, but you will always get seated. On the weekends, the wait is always over an hour. It sure is worth it though! Indulge your taste buds for a moment. You take one bite of this pizza and your taste buds are in heaven. The stringy cheese trails from your mouth to the plate and your hands are the only source able to cut the cord from mouth to pizza. Yummy!

The Chicago Accent

“I’m goin’ to get a caaaaaffee.” or “I’m goin’ to claaaaasss.”
This accent comes from the back of the throat and shoots straight up through the nose. So the accent sounds very nasal and disgusting.

Chicagoans are a bit more friendly when ordering a cup of coffee, however. “Please” and “Thank you” are thrown into the order with a smile and occasionally a tip. This is important for the winter season. A warm drink is necessary and they don’t want to burn their bridges at their favorite coffee shop.

I’ve been a customer and I’ve been a Barista. Stay neutral and you’ll get what you need in a blizzard.

Chicago Architecture

Widget_dt2xlm_6xgvkv81uvvl8e0

Chicago is known for it’s architecture. Frank Loyd Wright, Daniel Burnham, and Louis H. Sullivan, to only name a few, left their mark here and created a city of architectural bliss.

The bean, or Cloud Gate at Millennium Park is one of my all time favorites. You can see your body multiple times and appear very far away as well as very close up. I like to make faces at myself and laugh at how ridiculous others look.

Chicago's Lake Michigan

It’s clean, it’s green, and it’s HUGE! I ride my bike along the Lake Shore Path every day and the view is beautiful. The beaches are always packed in the summer and you can swim in them without getting a disease. That’s good to know!

Chicago Performs Too

At least we have a musical named after us. That’s right, “Razzle Dazzle Me Chicago!”
With theater companies like The Steppenwolf Theater Company, The Looking Glass, and The Second City, there is no need to fight off crowds of people in New York for tickets when you can be in Chicago.

Steppenwolf Theatre Co

1650 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60614

Want to see good theater? Go here! Go see a show! So many talented actors have made there way to this stage and you won’t leave without giving a standing ovation.

Thanks for linking to my post. Personally I’m a fan of Chicago pizza over NY’s pizza. Call me bias, but it’s just better. Don’t even get me started on the hot dogs :)

I am not loyal to any one place that serves up coffee. I like to hop around from place to place until I have found the perfect cup of coffee, or at least until my heart gives out. I love to poke fun at people, places, and circumstance. You can be a Coffee Slut too. Let's chat over a cup...
