The Guidespot Community Guide
This is a Community Guide to discuss how Guidespot is designed, what is coming up, and what you would like to see added to the site. Don't be shy, all feedback is needed and supported! Please be aware that off-topic postings will be deleted.
A more social aspect...
Of course Guidespot.com is already a social site… I get that. But it would be nice to have an email type thing going on. It’d be great for authors to be able to communicate on private terms while on Guidespot.com. You never know what crazy idea’s two minds could think up when conversing between themselves. Eh eh?
Choice on who can see your guide?
Also! It would be pretty cool if there was a way to allow only a certain group of people to view your guide. Like if you could send an invitation to authors to view it, but it would remain private to everyone else… that would be sweet. Just like on facebook how you can allow certain friends to view certain things.
Some Idears.
I like the idea of adding share buttons! More ways to get people readin’ our work! Also, I would like to see a “featured” Guide of the week, month, year, whateva. Could be fun.
Anyway, some Coffee Slut suggestions. Gotta say, I’m addicted! Especially to the community guides. Great idea!
Q for you Coffee Slut: First of all, thank you so much for your input, I am so excited that you are enjoying the Community Guides, they truly are addicting, are a fun way to meet new people, and find new things. In regards to your request on being able to easily share guides with share buttons… Do you have any examples or anything specific that you would like to see on the guides that would make it easier for you to share your work with your network and the world?!
You Like This Example Coffee Slut?
How would you like to see the share buttons of some of the bigger social sites right next to the guide title like the example above?
Coffee Slut loves it!!
I think this is a great way to share guides! I like the idea also of having a GSpot link or button to place on facebook. Can’t go wrong there.

Question: Wheres the top list? If theres not a top list of the best guides then what’s the point of having thumbs up?
Answer: Hi goigri, Thanks for your question about the disappearance of the Top Guides page, which used to be on Guidespot before we launched with the new homepage and categories in August of 2008. At this time, the only way you can view top guides is by using the “Sort By” filter option under a specific category on a search results page. Right now however, there is no way to view the Top Guides for all of the guides on Guidespot, but it doesn’t mean we can’t add this back in somewhow… Read below to hear my suggestions! Thanks again goigri, I also posted your question and answered it in The Guidespot Help Community Guide.
Q for you goigri: Would you like to be able to see or find the Top Guides for all guides on Guidespot in addition to the Top Guides for each category? Your question is brilliant, because it seems as though you want the option to see the top guides for all categories, just like you used to be able to do! How would you like the option to search and filter by All Categories? This way you could click on the designated filter or sorting option for All Categories, seeing the same results as the Top Guides page? Did you like it as it used to be, a separate page or link? Any other ideas are welcome, but I think we can get this back in for you in an accessible way in the near future. Thanks again!
also, i think its a good idea to have each category have the best of or top guides!

Hey goigri, you’re on top of it! The funny thing is you can see the Top Guides for each category…. Just click on a category and when the search results page appears, click on the filter on the top that says, “Popular.”
Q for you goigri: Should we change the word, “Popular” to “Top Guide”?
For Example...
Community Guides are addicting, and I love them! I wish I could comment on what someone posted within the guide. Like if someone posted a funny video, I want to respond to it within the object that they posted! I like how Flickr let’s you see where people have commented… When you fly over the box, you can read people’s comments. The boxes go away when you move off of the image.
The community guides are GREAT!!!! I love them, I wish people would throw out their creativity even more and get involved, come guys I wrote a guide on confessions and I know some of you are out there catching up on Saved by the Bell re-runs and you WANT to confess it to SOMEONE??? ;) Show the love!
Facebook/Fark/Digg Linking
What happened to those quick and easy links that you could use to post up on facebook, digg, fark, etc??? Those were arrresome, and I know something about arrrresomeness.
Q: Facebook/Fark/Digg Linking
A: Hey chubbuni! it is still available, but it got moved! When viewing a guide you will notice a link that says, “Bookmark.” If you click on that link a flyout will appear with even more sharing options, allowing you to share a guide on multiple social outlets. Your question inspired change! I just requested that the word, “Bookmark” be changed to “Share.” The image above is for the visual learners.
Q for you chubbuni: We are looking into the idea of putting recognizable share buttons for major social networks (Digg, Facebook, StumbleUpon etc.) right on the top part of the guide near the title (on every guide). What do you think of this idea as another easy way to share guides on Guidespot?
hi, where is the best list of guides? i used to have an update to that on my igoogle page, but now its all screwy. where is the page now?
Question: Where is the best list of guides?
Answer: Hi goigri, awesome question, thanks for posting it. Guidespot made some recent changes and this might have accidentally messed up your feed. We are sorry! I posted your question and answered it in more detail in The Guidespot Community Help Guide. Please follow that link to get a more detailed explination. Thanks again for your question and input, and keep them coming!
A polling box
I’d love to be able to survey and poll my readers on certain topics. Is there any way we can add a function for that?
This is from blogger… you like?
Question: Polling Box in Guides?
Answer: Hi Emerald Dandy, This is a great idea and I think this would be a nice addition and a great way to get your readers more interactive with your content and guide.
Q for you Emerald Dandy:
- Where would you like to see the results to this polling object if it were in your guide? As a separate guide…that people click on a link to see as submissions are given?
- Do you have an example of some polling objects that you like and think would be a good addition to Guidespot? For example, I know that Blogger has one… are there other sites or polling sites that you recommend?
