Why I'm the Hugest Ryan Adams Fan Ever
Ryan Adams is a God to me. I think his music is as amazing as music can get and I can listen to it forever without getting tired of it. He's also a pretty fascinating person with many sides to him that he generally isn't afraid to show (as long as you catch them before he deletes them from the Internet). Once you listen to a few of Ryan's songs, I promise you will be hooked too. I don't know of any other music that can break hearts like Ryan's. Here are all the ways I love him so much.
Ryan Adams is what he calls a “fickle blogger.” He created a Tumblr and tends to blog in it for a month or two before getting sick of it and completely shutting it down. Then a couple months later he returns.
His blog is full of his deep thoughts, songs, and pictures. He is extremely candid and allows his fans to get right into his head. He also tends to take offense to things readers say about him, making him not quite fit for the blogging world.
He makes crazy videos that make it seem like he’s still on drugs. I think he’s just so overwhelmed with creativity, he doesn’t know what to do with all of it.
Also, he really likes Carl Sagan and Steven King in case you couldn’t tell.
Ryan Adams Wanna-Bes
Do a search for Ryan on YouTube and you’ll come across tons and tons of people playing their guitars and trying to sound exactly like Ryan. While some of them are absolutely horrible, some actually aren’t too bad. But still, nobody quite compares to Ryan.
A not-so-bad version of one of my favorite Ryan Adams songs.
Another excellent Ryan Adams wanna-be, this one singing “I See Monsters.” None of them can measure up to Ryan, but some do a pretty darn good job of trying.
I love this interview with Ryan. Plus, how can you not love his Ghostbusters jacket??
You can listen to Ryan’s entire show from September 7, 2008 at Boston’s Bank of America Pavillion here. He played for almost 3 hours. It was heaven!
Ryan Adams' Love Life
Ryan is known for dating pretty girls. It seems that he’s currently single and he’s always talking about how he’s “too crazy” to be in a relationship. But he seems to be at his happiest when he’s with someone.
Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore
Ryan most recently dated one of my favorite people, Mandy Moore. I don’t like her as much now that I know she broke his heart and pretty quickly started dating someone else. Maybe a strange combination, but I think they were cute together.
Ryan and Jessica Joffe
Ryan also dated NY socialite Jessica Joffe, who is credited for helping him get sober.
Ryan Adams and Parker Posey
And he also spent a lot of time in a relationship with indie actress Parker Posey. I’ve never seen him so non-thin than in this picture!
Just wow. This is from a few years ago and clearly Ryan had some hair gel issues. He still sounds fabulous though.
My favorite live performance of Ryan Adams and one of the songs that can bring me to tears every time.
Elton John Loves Ryan Adams
When Elton John discovered Ryan Adams’ music, he basically chased him down. He says of Ryan, “Thank you Ryan Adams for making me do better,” which to me, is probably the biggest compliment you could ever ever get.
They appeared on CMT’s Crossroads together a couple years ago and it’s one of my favorite things in the world.
I wish I could find the live video version of this so you could see the interactions between the two. I really think it says something that Elton is so moved by Ryan’s music.
Oh and Elton lets Ryan sing all his songs. At the CMT Crossroads show, Ryan sang all Elton and Elton sang all Ryan. Some they sang together. Pure delights.
The Cardinals
Ryan Adams doesn’t tour as “Ryan Adams.” He travels and plays with “Ryan Adams and The Cardinals.” I love when they’re all playing together. And judging from Ryan’s sometimes-blog, it seems like they all get along incredibly well together.
Ryan may be the biggest star of The Cardinals, but Neal Casal is pretty known too. His music is awesome and this is one of my favorite songs of his.
The official promo video “Oh My God, Whatever, Etc.” Love it.
Another one of my favorite songs, here’s Ryan in the studio with The Cardinals.
“What does it mean to be so sad? When someone you love is supposed to make you happy. What do you do to keep love alive when it won’t?”
The Gap might be one of the last places you’d expect Ryan to do a commercial for, but here he is with Willie Nelson. Ryan actually produced Willie’s album “Songbird” and The Cardinals play back-up band on the album.
This fan Q&A with Ryan is hilarious. It allows you to see what a crazy character Ryan is. I don’t think his fans realized what they were getting themselves into.
