Modeled after the Palladian styled buildings of Italy, Saint Petersburg's Museum of Fine Arts acts as a showcase for art objects spanning much of the course of human history. Some of the museum's oldest items are from the pre-Columbian cultures of the Americas and the ancient Greeks, but the collection of over 4,000 pieces also includes recent works by the likes of Georgia O'Keeffee, Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The museum is located on the waterfront in Straub Park, near attractions like the St. Petersburg Museum of History and the Florida International Museum.

Other amenities on site include boat rentals, family bicycle rentals and a fishing pier; a number of companies offer scenic cruises of Tampa Bay, departing from the pier. Positioned out on the bay to the east of the city, the pier is close to Progress Energy Park.

The art museum is on the waterfront in Poynter Park, east of the Bayfront Medical Center.

Over 100 years old, Sunken Gardens features beautiful assortments of tropical plants, trees and waterfalls, along with various resident tropical birds and butterflies. Much of the garden spaces are nearly overrun with flourishing plants, more than 50,000 in total; amongst them are some of the oldest tropical plants surviving in the region. The gardens are just south of Great Explorations, The Children's Museum on the north side of downtown.
